The specific objectives of the Doctoral Program in Geosciences (UAveiro/UPorto) at Universidade de Aveiro are:

  • Acquire skills in the use of experimental techniques for characterization of geological products
  • Improve the capacity selection and application of knowledge and techniques to solve problems of scientific and technological nature, and management of natural hazards
  • Promote the ability to integrate acquired knowledge in identifying appropriate solutions to problems of interdisciplinary nature, and their applicability in research areas and technical support and application
  • Develop and improve the ability to publicly and under different forms, display ideas and communicate research findings, by selecting and using the most appropriate and modern communication technologies
  • Develop ability to autonomously search relevant information for research and thesis work, based on scientific and technical literature
  • Develop skills of research work independently and in teams
  • Improve skills of analysis and discussion of socio-economic consequences, cultural and ethical implications of research and developments in the field of Geosciences

The doctorate program aims to train highly-qualified professionals and researchers in the field of Geosciences.

This training should provide them to go into the industrial sector and public and private research centres to perform tasks in research, monitoring, production, management and R&D.
